Underfloor heating leak detection
A concealed heating circuit needs a measured investigation. The manifold, circuit layout and pressure-loss pattern provide the starting point.
Discuss this problemUnderstand the circuits
A wet underfloor heating installation can contain several loops connected at a manifold. Knowing which rooms those loops serve, whether the labels are reliable and what alterations have been made can make the investigation more focused. A room plan is useful if you have one.
Test what can be separated
Where the installation allows it, checking individual circuits can narrow the search. Thermal imaging may help trace operating patterns under suitable conditions. Pipe depth, floor finish and the ability to create a temperature difference affect what can be seen.
Avoid assumptions about the surface
The visible wet area may be some distance from the pipe failure, especially where water moves through insulation or screed. Detection findings need to be considered together before an access point is selected.
Discuss repair and finishes
Access and pipe repair depend on the construction and agreed scope. Matching replacement floor finishes, drying and reinstatement are separate considerations. Include details of stone, tile, timber or other specialist flooring in the enquiry.
